Im reading the book our america and up to this point im like on page 50. i have read about how lealan and lloyd came to be freinds and how they wacth each others back. lealan talks about the neighborhood as being the vietnam war is that really what hes trying to say?.the part that i think was kid of interesting was the interview with the school principel. the questions that the 2 boys ask her are very interesting and i would of thught she wouldnnt answer them but she did. they asked her if she thought that her students were all gnna be in a gang and she replied with her a honest answer saying some will and some wont. she talks about the gang experience in the school and she kind of tells you your not even safe in your school around there kids have been shot and and killed right infront of the door they sometimes use the back door to get out. well this is as far as i have read there is more things that i read but I think these were kind of the most important parts but to me not very important but interesting.

Our America has been one of the most captivating reads I've encountered in a long while. It's amazing how a young kid with a tape recorder attracted so much attention to his community. It just goes to show that if you work hard to achieve your goals, you can achieve anything. If more people did, our world would be a different(maybe not better), but differrent!!

Our America is one of the best books that I have read in my life (although I'm only 18). I have learned so much about Chicago's South Side and the book has inspired me to go and to research the south side "projects". The two young men in this novel are very good examples of inner city youth who have good judgement and are smart and not a statistic. I am really enjoying this book and would recommend it to everyone.

I am reading this book now and it really lets you see the how it is from the inside looking out. It allows you to understand what it’s like for the two boys and what made them develop their philosophies on life, gangs, and drugs. It’s a good book.
