Day 3: Darrion

In our America the two main people felt that they did have a word in the world like the government did want to listen to them. how the the character in our book feel that they wasn't listened to?

Can you describe a point in your life that you was ignored by people when you had something to say?

One time that I was ignored was during my junior year of highschool. It was the beginning of our soccer season and the team was talking about drills and etiquette before the match. We listed off certain apparel we wanted to wear on certain days and out of nowhere I had an idea to wear specific jerseys during practice. The coach acknowledged my idea at first but never took it any further. When I asked the team how they felt about it and didn't get any response. So everyone was on board with the idea but never brought in the money for the shirts. I thought it would make the team feel more efficient having more gear. But I suppose it was my responsibility to carry out the idea bringing in order forms and collecting money. An example from "The Last American Man" that Eustace was ignored was during lunch. He used to sit with all the rejects at his lunch table while the rest of the school looked down on them.

In Stranger Than Fiction, I feel as if the main chacter at times feels as if he's un phased by what's going on at times making it appear that he seems out of place and is too afraid to express his own opinions. In my own personal expierence with this issue growing up I felt as if and this does sound typical of a pre-teen "I wasn't listened too or no one cared enough to help". That was the hardest feeling knowing that you have something to say but being ingored by everyone to say with no one to listen.

Well i havent got to a part in the book where LeAlan and Lloyd voice's wasnt heard. But I do remember a time in life when i was ignored and my voice wasnt heard. I started playing the drums when i was six. When i was 12 i wanted to play the drums for my old church. And the older drummers would say that i couldnt play and that i was too young. They didnt even know or see if i could play or not. Then when i was 14 i started attending another church and their youth choir needed a drummer. So i told the orchestra leader that i could play and she listened to me play. That day i became the youth choir drummer. Yea i was young but my skills had yet developed. As i people began to see me play at different events, they could see that i could play. One day, the drummer at my old church saw me and was like only if i would have listened to you. That just comes to see that people do have a story tell whether you listen or not. King Phillip

Within in Our Amereica LeAlan and LLyod feel as they live in their own america seperate from our amereica. A point within the book that really speaks to this point is when they contrast the suburn kid with the ghetto kid. They speak of how the ghetto kid will be very angry, and not equiped with the tools to survive in a professal world. While the subburn kid will be be common, cool, and collected. I as well have felt this way as an Artist i'm very emotional and that makes me not very equipped to be around "normal poeple". Because they can really understand what and how i can feel so strong so fast. This is really bad for me in arelationship because the girl will be at point a A and i'l lbe at Z. then when she gets to W i'l be at AA

For the most part, not a day goes by without the feeling of my words being passed up or not recognized. This is something that we all need to realize is going to happen almost no matter what. There’s always going to be some one with more power then you, and with more power they gain the option of not listening. What you really have to do is find other options and outlets to get yours thoughts and expressions out. Stop waiting for some one to hear you have to find a way to tell people. For me its easy, I have my music. Either it’s the image my band represents or the messages we try to send out through are music, are thoughts are being heard; even on the micro level. In stranger then fiction, every person in the groups chuck palinuk visits feels a sense of security knowing that the group they associate themselves with, will listen to them, and most likely feel similar. When chuck visits the wrestling competition each member feels like they need to justify the sport they compete in, with the public. This was there outlet, an outsider given them a chance to get there words down on paper. When there views come in a nice book with a bestselling authors name on it, it’s a little easier to swallow.

In the story our america they are ignored by the government. They are just poor children they are not like anyone else. They live in the ghetto and the government sees that as a exampel why it doesnt matter to them. They dont want to deal with helping them then they would have to help all the people and having to fix the neighborhood.

I think everyone has been ignored at some time. sometimes people have their reasons to ignore others and sometimes there is no reason. I remember one time i was ignored at the emergency room. I was about 15 yrs old i was in the emergency room because i had goten in a fight and i was hit by a bottle. so i went to the emergency room and i was to be seen next but they lady who was calling names said my situation wasnt as bad as it can be. so my mom got in a fight and we realised she was doin that to every young latino that was there. So the lady was racist i guess so the security came and talked to her. she told the security it was her decision who to let in and who not to let in. the security had her removed and well i was abel to see the doctor after that. so that was one time i was ignored for a dum reason.

when a young five year old boy was thrown from the fourteenth floor of a project building in the characters neighborhood. The story gained national attention,at least for a short while. Eventually the murder was forgotten about and everyone continued on there everyday lives. Even after all of the politicians campaigns for change, and promises for a solution to the violence. Still the residents of the neighborhood didn't expect much to happen. After years of neglect, people in the projects have grown accustomed to the violence and empty promises for change. Being a youth , I can tell you that many times my voice has been ignored on numerous occasions. One instance for example, My house had been broken into numerous times, and countless reports had been filed. Even with a suspect caught red handed on several occasions. No charges Were filed so this individual was free to go. Regardless of what I had to say. The Police had made up there minds that since the individual was my neighbor and he had said we had given him permission to enter our home. No charges could be filed. Talk about being ignored. Our house continued to be vandalized until the suspect was caught commiting another burgarlery in another home in a more prominent neighborhood.

So, I work at a small hole in the wall comic store out in Oak Lawn, and our boss is always asking us to come up with ideas and what not to make the store a little bit more fun. So me and one of my other friends that I work with will come up with some awesome ideas in our opinion. Like, lets make skrull masks for the little kids for the secret skrull invasion (a skrull is basically a green alien thing with a really weird chin, who when they first came to earth disguised themselves as cows, holy nerd outbreak I’m sorry), and since our boss is MIA most of the time we have to relay everything to our manager (who is a prick by the way). So when we tell him he goes “ya know, I don’t like, I mean it sounds like a good idea but it might scare all the really little kids” (really though it might, skrulls are kind of weird looking) so we just kinda shrug it off. I mean he sort of acknowledged the idea but pretty much said no. BUT..but, a few days later, our MIA boss stops in the store to do some stuff and my manager goes up and pitches our skrull idea to my boss and he loves it, and yes, my manager takes full credit and refuses to admit that we even gave him an idea. Or there was what I was saying in my response to Michelle’s blog, you try to get a bunch of shit that’s really bothering you off your chest and whoever you are trusting enough to talk to about it just kind of blows you off. Sorry about the nerd outbreak and that i couldn't think of a refernece to stranger then fiction.

I go threw that everyday. On a daily theres always one person that aint trying to hear what I am saying. I call them haters. I dont understand, if some one is talking and having a convo with you oviuosly they got things there trying to get off there mind or put out in to the world. When a person is not trying to listen to at least the concept of there thoughts or view points that igronant and rude. It happens to me when... I TRY to explain to my parents how and why I ama make it in the world after college ( they think an art college is a joke, but in four years whos gonna be laughing??) when I TRY to have intellectual conversation about things i herd in a lecture or things i learned in class... its just how things go... but again whos gonna have the last laugh? the person speakin the truth or the one not trying to listen?????
