Day 4: David

"People would examine there lives but only in terms of movie and paperback potential. Where a story no longer follows as the result of an experience. Now the experience happens in order to generate a story."

Look at the author for this question instead of the story itself. What connection do you feel the author has to the events and situations there portraying in their books. Where are there motives coming from? A specific question you could ask would be; does my author include the stories and facts to indirectly force a message, or is he/she just observing, and for the most part letting you forge your own opinions?

When you sit down to create art of any kind, do you feel it’s easier to specifically use things that have happened in your life? Or does it come easer to force a feeling or make an event up to convey the message you want?

In my book stranger then fiction, I belive my authur does not tell you the situions and events directly. He tells just what happened and its up to you to tie emotions, feelins, and the grasp what really took place. When i create my own art, i can not just sit ther and force this feelin on me.with that being said you aleady know the answer to the next question... i can not just make a siutaion happen or force something to take place. its gotta be natual......in art you have to keep it real.... how real is a well thought out and tweaked plan????

In my book Stranger than Fiction he is more of observing other people and telling stories about their lives, so he is more creating a story for us to form our own opinion, rather then forcing a type of message on us. When I create my own art, I have used things that have happened in my life, but I don’t really force a message on anybody. Most of the time someone will get what they want out of a piece, I’d rather someone create their own story for my photographs other then spend forever trying to figure out why I took the picture in the first place.

Elizabeth Gilbert wouldn't have written THE LAST AMERICAN MAN if she hadn't worked out in a ranch in Wyoming where she met the main character's brother, Judson. She was out there because she was looking for authenticity in the American Frontier. It seems like she wanted to build a stronger work ethic. I think she wrote this book because she wants to send a message for people like Eustace Conway, that search for meaning in their lives. Eustace Conway doesn't take short cuts, and like Elizabeth Gilbert, wants to build themself. But I don't know for sure because I haven't finished the book.

In Stranger Than Fiction, I believe Chuck writes as if he is observing when he describes diffrent events/ topics in each essay. When reading the essay about wrestling I found that he dosen't force one opnion about the topic onto you, he allows you to form your own opnion about the sport as well as gathering diffrent view points from all kinds of wrestlers.
As with where I gather ideas from personal expierences or pull them out of thin air on a whim... It has been both. I've seen that it just depends on what I'm going through. Whenever I gather ideas from personal expierences it's always when I'm at a an all time high or an all time low in my life, the rest of the time It's out of thin air.

Well in Our America its a story of the lives of two African American boys who live in the ghetto; who has a voice. I think that it is easier write a story based on personal experience because you have gotten something from that experience and you want to share it with other people. And that is what LeAlan and Llyod is doing in Our America. They are telling a story of their lives and things that they see. For example, LeAlan talks about maturing and growing up know drugs, drug sellers and crackhead. That is comin from hsi own experience.

In Stranger Than Fiction, Chuck Palahniuk gives the readers an opportunity to form their own opinions. Since he is using true stories, He lets u know fully of their actions and possibly their thought process. Chuck seems to LOVE surrounding himself with individuals who have 1 certain passion in life. They live and breathe for it and most ppl wouldn’t understand. When I create art, I like to use factual events and I enjoy adding my own flava…it to gives it more “ZSA ZSA ZSU” LOL…..but I enjoy to write things that keeps a person wantin more and more !!!!!!

the reason that that LeAlan and Lloyd wrtoe the book is. Because the govenment wouldnt listen to them or any of the people in the ghetto. so they had to tell their story of the in the sounth side of chicago. went im making a part of art i mostly get it off of tv show like jackass and faimly guy etc.the thing i watch i dont think it all the way thorugh like get hurt or die.

The authors of OUr America have one goal in mind and that is to tell their story to get poeple to understand. They want poeple to hear the pian they face because they fell as if they are not a part of the bigger picture. I don't believe the authors of Our America really want to indirectly tell us anything they were only egiht and very staright forward. When I write or create art I do take from life but not purposely because things unconsciously Manifest and just comes out in my art.

Good Question!!! For me as an artist, I find it to use my own personal experience as inspiration and as a release. Not to say that exaggeration of an emotion or feeling is the wrong way to express yourself, but I find real life experience to be much more attractive. In Our America, Lealan and Lloyd express themselves through real life experience, And their purpose by this method is to try to make a difference in there community. Letting the world know how things REALLY ARE. It really depends on the situation. these boys weren't writing nursery rhymes. This is real shit!!!! Word Is BonD

honestly it is easier most of the time to bring something fictional to the table instead of my experiences. its not that i dont like to share my experiences but when you create something fictional its a fresh and universal idea. even when telling something youve encountered you may wanna sometimes stress the truth. and it may not be becaus eyou like to lie but it just seems saffer

I don’t think chuck really has anything for the most part literally in common with the places, people, or event s he portrays. I think he knows that he is a window between the reader and the thing he is showing. He isn’t on either side, he just wants you to form a question inspired buy what he is showing you. Then it’s up to you, the message the story is sending. More often then not authors will right a book with a message in mind. I don’t think chuck p. does. Like chuck p. when I create something its usually an unfamiliar territory. When you’re new to something in a way you have fear. Fear makes a person vulnerable and that is shown in the art that you’re creating. When I read or see something I don’t want it to feel like the author has been there before. Like he or she has mapped this scene out in their head a million times before. Art is vulnerability; I like to strive for that not run away from it.

In my book our america, lealan and lloyd tell you the situations and events directly. By what they say in there writings the two kids are trying to send the reader a message about the things that are occuring. They tell you the situations they go through, and what there family thinks of them and what should be fixed. When i create my own art i dont think is it easy to try and force a feeling rto come out and from there on. I do think art is about showing things that have happened in your life if not my by describing some one or something.
