Day 6: Jenelle

"If only by distorting events, tweaking them for more dramatic impact, exaggerrating them to the point you forget your actual history-you forget who you are-is it possible to expolit your own life for the sake of a marketable story?"

This is a quote from my book Stranger than Fiction, how does it relate to your story? And is it really possible to exploit your own life for the sake of a marketable story? Maybe you have already done so, do you think it would/did have a positive effect or a negative on your life after the story is completed and on the shelves. And finally, not only effects on your life but how did/would it effect you to exploit your life for a marketable story?

Yes it is possiable to tweak or buff up your life for a marketable story. They do it in movies all the time, that's why it says based on a true story. 300 is a great example of an comic book artist tweaking the story of 300 spartians for a marketable story. The movie pushing the tweak further, Do I agree with tweaking an event in my life or history for a marketable story no, I do not. I think the purest form of story telling is that of truth and real events. If the story isn't marketable who cares because as long as there's a stroy to be told there will be someone to listen.

I think it’s too easy to exploit your own life for a good story. If your life is that exciting, or miserable people are actually going to spend money to read it I would lay all my stuff bare. Respectably of course. When thinking from a positive/negative aspect it can truly go both ways. It all depends on the reads and how your audience accepts your trials and tribulations. As far as handling in a positive/negative matter that’s also on you, it depends on the story you put out and how in depth and in tune it is to your own life. If you think about it, after every one reads your book the whole world knows your life story, so would you put out a bad impression or a good one. At book signings will you give off a good vibe or a vibe filled with struggle and depression? Make life what you can, and make the best out of that because you never know you may end up with a bestselling novel but how was the impression? Is it what you wanted to give and was that the life you wanted to live? SPEAK ON IT

as complex of a question it is it's not hard to answer. in some cases i dont think that i would be drastically effected. this sometimes comes along with being an open person. if you can tell your problems to a complete stranger and feel the same as you would with someone closer, well you dont have this problem. however, the picture can sometimes be bigger than that, sometimes it's too much of a personal connection. in my case i do feel that i could tell my story, but only to a certain extent due to personal reasons. who am i kidding, any story can be SOLD

Why wouldn’t it be possible, very few things are not possible? I think it all depends on the motivation for doing so. You could do it for Money, or to persuade a specific feeling you wouldn’t be able to get with out changing your story. In a world of reality TV and internet phenomena becoming famous, what is going to set you apart from all of us? Living has become a race, and were all in it to win. Why would we be going to college? Let’s not be so PG, were not all here just to learn, our education is the divider between ourselves and another person competing for a job. Why can’t we make up a story? The only one that knows the truth is you, and if it gets you ahead you can live with it. Were all not as punk rock as we would like to think ourselves to be. I wouldn’t change anything about a story if it wasn’t going to positively effect me. So if I did change something to become more marketable it would positively affect my life.

Well since I’m all about “lights, camera, action” I wouldn’t mind marketing my life story. I feel that I’m an open book and should be looked at all times lol. I know that’s a little crazy but that’s what makes me Kendall Aaron Mays. I love to be the center of attention. It makes my day when I’m able to show off my incredible personality to others. It makes me feel whole. I’ve never been one to settle for the oke doke. That’s just soooooooooooooo wrong for me. Since I plan to one day have my own daytime talk show, any training ground even if it seems trivial is great to me. I want to one day be in the same league as Oprah. To be greatly appreciated by people for the people. I have a great desire to be heard by all and dammit I deserve it. I know some may see that as wanting to be toooooo much in life but I don’t see it as enough. I plan to change the world and I’m going to use all that I have to get what I want. By the fall 2020 on ABC, my show will have premiered with great ratings and Daytime Emmys. AWWWWWW!! Just thinking about it gets me excited!!!

I have not tweaked anything or have I forgotten the history of my life. Yes I have gone through things that has opened my eyes up to the real world. Any situation that I have been through has had a positive or negative effect on my life. When I first got arrested, for something that I didnt do opened my eyes. It opened my eyes to the real world and it opened my eyes to how people can be very envious of you. There are pretty reckless people in this world and they will want you and watch you fall. I believe it's possible to tweak your story to make it marketable. It has been done so many times in the past. It's hard to say right now if I personally would ever market my story. At times i would say I couldn't sell myself out like that since it is full of such personal touchy subjects like family issues. I don't think I could ever sell out my family- mom and brother like that. But then again I could see myself selling myself out, only for a paycheck. I wouldn't think of the repercussions.

People do tweak their stories at some point you see that on telivision all the time. Also in movies sometimes even in music.Does it relate to my story no ,because it's a true story but maybe you never know some parts of it might sound to exagerating and u dont believe it. Do I agree with changing or tweaking wich ever of those in some part of my life no, I do not. I think that the best thing to do is to tell the truth it may sometimes not sound so interested but I think you should stick to telling real events in your life. You have to tell how that effected your life what started the problem you faced to lead to a story.By doing that you get to show people what a real life is about without all the changing and show your a real person.

I think it's possible to exploit your own life for the sake of a marketable story. People write books about themselves. It's the same deal with movies. The fact that this project could make millions of dollars usually won't hold the subject of the story from opening their life to an audience. The obstacles someone has to overcome may inspire thousands of people. But I feel that the subject of the story won't challenge him/herself like they had before the book was published. I think their lifestyle would change for the worse. They might face another obstacle similar to one in the book after their life is exposed. If they don't want to overcome that obstacle, the audience is still expecting he/she to. So they might feel obligated to carry out that same lifestyle they shared with millions of people.
