Day 9: Michael

in the last american man there is only one main story being told. the story of Eustace Conway can be very understood by the reader, but everyone dosn't agree with his outrageous adventures. his brother and sister for example are some what disbeleivers of what he does. they believe that Eustace could have been average person like everybody else. however, eustace blames the pressure endured by his father for part of the reason of him being the way he is; in some cases i can disagree. in your story can you dig deep enough into the original story and disagree with whats being told?

No I can't because with the problems the Children are faced with in Our America I can barely understand what it is they are going through. But for the most part the things I do understand I agree with. And the things I don't agree with I must take their word for it. The voices within this community are true and it is hard to deny them that; without devaluing their experience. Making them sound some what false, taking what the have said and putting my jaded opinon upon it seems somewhat blasphemes. IO think If I were disagree with what they see everyday I just like the poeple that judge them on a daliy basis. Now do I disagree with the life styles within the stroy yes of course. Some of the children lead lives that are that run the smae course of adluts. They steal, kill, and find no joy in leraning. The lifestye some of the poeple within in this I don't disagree with but the over all word or message with in the book I most agree with.

In Our America, There are many scude perspectives with it's pages. There are so many different opinionated ideas why "The Wells" came to deteriorate to their conditions. The only person to blame for these situations are the people as a whole. The people within the wells for not communicating there propblem and those from other communities who chose ignore the problem keeping it out of sight out of mind for there own reassurance. lealan and Lloyd display this communication bar as they collect opinions as they interview residents from the residents, law enforcement, and judicial system representives.

In my book Stranger Than Fiction, the chapter " Where Meat Comes From" it tells the tale of secret wrestling. i disagree with the topic of pysically hurting yourself to get over on the competition. They were draing their own ears ; which i assume was very painful. I couldn't even imagine hurting myself. No fond beleiver of no pain, no gain lol. I would rather hurt sumbody else then my own self. But if thats their choice, i can't object. Bcuz if you like it...I LOVE IT !!!!

I can go back to The Last American Man when Eustace is starting to get tired after a couple years in Turtle Island. Elizabeth Gilbert writes that Eustace Conway was too exhausted even to complain in his diary. But I think he was exhausted because he hadn't written in his diary. He let all that stress build up in him and had nobody to express his feelings to. The next best thing is to write in his diary. But for some reason, "he didn't have the energy". I don't disagree with what's happening to Eustace. I just disagree with the way the story is being told.

In my story I don’t necessarily think you can disagree whit what’s being told, I think you can just not relate to the characters desires. Sure you may not want to build a castle, but the person building it has reasons why he or she feels she must build it. If you were to say its wrong judging by the details chuck p. gives, it’s just a micro form of Ethnocentrism. Anyone can disagree with someone’s opinion or the way they participate, or the role they play, in their culture; we just have to view it with as much Cultural relativism in mind.

In Our America, LeAlan and Lloyd tell a story of their life in the Ida B. Wells. They tell about things that go on in their neighborhood. I agree with the story that LeAlan and Lloyd are telling because they are trying to get their point across. They are telling the truth and they are telling what they see. Their not involved with what they see. They see things like drugs, drug leader, crack heads, abandoned houses/apartments and homeless kids. We all see the things they talk about in the book. We may not see them as vivid as LeAlan and Lloyd. We still see what they are tryin to show us.

I probably could have before I read my book Stranger Than Fiction, but after reading it I wouldn’t be able to do that. I mostly like would have never known the events taking place in my book would have existed unless I read it. To be honest I probably couldn’t even phantom some of these events. Anything can happen, even if you don’t THINK it can.

In the book I am reading Stranger Than Fiction, I would have to either disagree with the "testy festy" with how they conduct themselves in front of others. I am not one to judge but the chapter that really I could see myself judgeing and getting upset with the charcters was "where the meat comes from" I couldn't see how they could lie to their wives when they said they were not going to fight anymore and then go and break a nose in their next fight. I couldn't grasp why it meant so much to them, how someone could hurt themselves in such a painful way with little or no reward in the end. I mean at the end of the chapter half of them did not win their match or ever make it to the olympics.

Since I’m not reading one story, but reading multi-stories, I just can’t focus on one subject and go deeper in to them to disagree. However, as much as I enjoy the first chapter “Testy Festy,” I must disagree with a festival that only focuses on the acts of sex and nudity. It sort of reminds me of the party that worshiped the golden calf in the stories of Moses. Actually, the two events can be juxtaposed perfectly; The sexual innuendos, the worshiping of calves and bulls, and the random acts debauchery.
