I was kinda shocked to read the 1st few pages of "Stranger than Fiction" because i was expecting one thing and than I start to think I was reading a porn novel. A Testicle Festival ????????????? lol
I agree with "kenaarmay" word for word. When I picked up the book I had an idea of what I was going to start reading, on what to expect with the first chapter. After reading the first page even I had no idea what I came across. My whole idea was shattered (for the better it keeps you guessing and wanting more). Great writer, his imagery (even if it is quite RAUNCHY!) is very visual... He knows how to enage an audience.
i agree with "michelleg" each chapter pretty much tells a different story and it keeps you wanting to know what happens next. it's a lot of fun even if you're like "Testicle Festival?! what the fuck?!"
This book is crazy!! But kinda keeps your attention... like every one else, the first chapter had me thinkin this book was a LESS freaky verson of the Zane novels ( witch are off the chain to. The second chapter was boring i am hoping the 3rd picks up... Palahniuk i think is on some kinda drugs lol to be thinking of writing all these diffrent short stories.
As strange as it may seem (ha, no pun intended) I have never found a book that grasped my attention like Palahniuk's book has. In fact, I have never had a book grasp my attention! I just that the depth of each person lives and how the author elaborates all of them. He knows what the reader wants to know about the characters or actually people he's writing about. It’s like he says to himself: "Self? What do you think would be of interest to the reader? If I talk about a character, what physical and mental traits make them who they are?" Then.....He's writes.

from the first chapter of this, all i could think of was Charles Bukowski and how he's a dirty, great writer, just, a dirty old man.
